Works launched on SRSP’s hydel unit

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Civil works were formally launched on a newly conceived nine megawatt (MW) capacity hydel station with Godavari as the source on Monday while synchronisation of the 39 MW first unit of Jurala across the Krishna has been postponed by a month for want of transmission lines.

There are already three units functioning at Sriramsagar project across the Godavari, each with nine MW capacity, but a fourth one (9 MW) has been taken up following increase of the discharge capacity of Kakatiya Canal, from 6,600 to 9,000 cusecs.

Work on this unit was launched at a function at SRSP on Monday, attended by Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Energy Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir, Fisheries Minister M. Buddha Prasad and AP Genco CMD, Ajay Jain.

U. G. Krishna Murthty, Director (Technical) APGenco, told The Hindu later that the BHEL would erect the plant while SRC Constructions would execute civil works. The unit (cost Rs. 27.75 crore) would generate 16.5 million units annually, depending on water availability in SRSP.
