KARUR: Stronger rupee might hurt the textile exporters now but they should take it as a challenge to be overcome. One way of achieving this is by fostering a better understanding with buyers, according to Hiren Shah, Chairman, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Tamil Nadu Branch. Speaking at a seminar organised by the Chamber here recently, Mr. Shah observed that when textile exporters were in a position to deliberate directly with their overseas buyers, circumventing the need for business facilitators, Indian exporters had to give a defining shape to their business attitude. Building relationships among trade partners played a prominent role in creating enduring business ties and our efforts must be towards cultivating closer ties. “Take the case of automobile industry. Once it was in depths of despair but now we can see a remarkable turnaround. So do not despair and try to adapt to changing situation. There are enough reasons for textile exporters to overcome the present crisis,” Mr. Shah said. Urging the Karur home textile exporters to create an exclusive brand of their own, Mr. Shah said they could then build on their brand image and compete globally in a more effective manner. Mr. Shah said that the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce was conducting programmes and annual events to further business ties between India and the United States. Pointing out that India’s home textiles exports to the US were on the upswing, he called upon the home textile exporters to fully utilise the situation.
