BJP to follow Gujarat model in other States

Hindutva, development will be poll plank

New Delhi: Buoyed by the victory of Narendra Modi in Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said it would replicate the combination of Hindutva and development as poll plank in other States too.

Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said Hindutva for the party meant nationalism and it would continue to raise the issues such as Ram Setu and the fight against terrorism.

“Hindutva means nationalism. One country one people ... Nationalism and development have always been the twin planks of the BJP,” he told reporters here.

Mr. Javadekar alleged that out of “frustration” and “disappointment” over defeat, some Congress leaders said Gujarat had sided with communalism. “Such remarks are an insult to Gujarat and the people of the State. Nobody should make such comments in a democratic set up,” he said. — PTI
