THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Bank of Travancore has sanctioned the most number of education loans in the State, according to figures placed before the State-level Bankers Committee, which met here on Monday. It sanctioned 62,634 loans totalling Rs. 827.23 crore. This is 41.61 per cent of the total number of loans sanctioned in the State by all commercial banks. The market share of the SBT in number of branches is 15 per cent and in advances and total business, 21 per cent. An official press note said the banks took keen interest in sanctioning these loans. Applications normally got rejected for reasons such as absence of mandatory approval from authorities, such as the All India Council for Technology Education and the University Grants Commission, shortage of marks for eligibility and unapproved courses. Sundaram, General Manager, RBI and Bhawar Puri, Chief General Manger, NABARD spoke at the SLBC meeting. Shailaja Chandra, Executive Director, Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK), Government of India made a presentation on National Population Stabilisation fund and its significance. P.
