Steel plant’s new record

Rourkela: Steel melting shop-II of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has created a new record on December 17 by achieving lining life of 4,267 heats in its converter-one, the best figure since inception. The earlier record of 4,087 heats was made on April 7, RSP sources said here on Monday. The significant rise in the lining life of the converter not only helped in reducing the refractory cost, thereby contributing to brining down the cost of production, but also resulted in substantial increase in crude steel production, they said.

While the SMS-II collective put their best efforts and improved the converter operations, the refractory department provided timely service. to maintain the lining health, the sources said. The bricks used in the campaign were produced entirely by the steel plant’s lime dolomite brick plant. Supply of quality hot metal from blast furnaces, and instrumentation department and, above all, teamwork had led to the superb performance, the sources said. – PTI
