SURYAPET (NALGONDA DT.): It’s a wonderful day out for the reputed artists, who were on a two-day visit to Nalgonda district that is known for famous temples and historical places. About two dozen artists, illustrators, painters and caricaturists, who came to Nalgonda to take part in a workshop conducted by ‘Kalaarekha’ on Sunday, had a memorable time at the revenue guest house that evening.

They shared their experiences and discussed new ideas with their gurus and friends.

The team comprised eminent artists like Chandra, Bali et al.The artists visited the Pachhala Someswara temple at Panagal to have a close look at the wonderful sculpture of the 12th century temple.

Later they visited Chaya Someswara temple and were floored by the “science involved in the construction.” “We can’t imagine how much effort they (the sculptures of yesteryears) put to chisel out rocks to create wonderful monuments. It’s amazing,” Surendra and Shanaker, cartoonists, maintained.

After a brief stopover at the Kalaarekha’s President Devulapally Krishnamurthy’s residence, the team visited the home of Mr. Surya Kumar, an expert in reading ancient inscriptions. Mr. Mohan celebrated his 57th birthday amid his friends there by cutting a cake arranged by his disciples.

Later the team visited the three temples at the historical Pillalamarri near Suryapet. Many of the artists were seen taking close shots of various figures chiselled on the temple walls with complete dedication. “Lotus flowers and Elephants are seen in good numbers in the works in every temple,” observed Pandu.
