MYSORE: The protests against former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s reported attempt to manhandle former Minister M. Mahadev continued for the second day on Monday with members of various Veerashaiva organisations holding demonstrations in Mysore and Nanjangud.

Scores of people representing Veerashaiva organisations gathered at Agrahara Circle in Mysore to criticise Mr. Siddaramaiah’s “highhandedness”. They shouted slogans against the former Deputy Chief Minister and his supporters for trying to physically attack Mr. Mahadev at the Youth Congress meeting in Mysore on Sunday. The protestors comprised supporters of Mr. Mahadev belonging to the Veerashaiva community. Traffic was disrupted in the area on account of the protest.

Members of the Veerashaiva community also held demonstration at the Visvesvaraya Circle in Nanjangud.

The Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Nanjangud, and former Minister M. Mahadev’s fans association in Nanjangud have also given a call for bandh on December 26 in this regard.

A host of organisations have issued statements condemning Mr. Siddaramaiah’s behaviour.

Former corporator N. Prakash, who is also the president of Ashraya Residents’ Welfare Association, has condemned Mr. Siddaramaiah for making an attempt to “assault” Mr. Mahadev, who had served the party with dedication.

Stree Shakti Self-help Group and Cauvery Mahila Samaj have also issued a statement decrying Mr. Siddaramaiah’s behaviour.
