It was a lapse in providing safety: police
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: For the parents of four-year-old Rakshith, who drowned in the swimming pool of the Sobha Windfall Apartments on Sunday, it is a tragedy like no other. But from what the police say, it looks like it was a tragedy waiting to happen.
According to B.B. Ashok Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, J.C. Nagar sub-division: “We found that the pool has an iron mesh around it with a gate, which is locked when it is not being used. People are allowed to use the pool between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday and it is not available for use on Mondays. On Saturdays and Sundays, the pool can be used between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Whenever it is open, a security guard is supposed to be stationed nearby.”
Mr. Ashok Kumar added that on the fateful day, the boy was playing with a friend near the pool and seemed to have gone near the pool and accidentally fallen in. The parents of the child were also not around.
A case of negligence has been registered against the president of the apartment owner’s association.
