Abandoned briefcase leads to tension

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A briefcase found abandoned beneath the Punjagutta fly-over at Amrutha Mall end gave anxious moments to the police with passers-by mistaking it for a bomb on Monday.

Commuters alerted the Punjagutta police on seeing the black briefcase along the debris near a pillar of the flyover in the afternoon suspecting that bombs could have been placed in it. Mild tension prevailed with scores of curious onlookers gathering at the site even as the police diverted the traffic.

The bomb disposal squad was called in. It took the bag to a secluded place and opened it only to find some papers relating to a real estate venture and a few visiting cards. “There is no clue about the briefcase owner,” the Punjagutta ACP L.K. Shinde told reporters later.
