Orissa crafts fair a big draw

CRAFTSMANSHIP: Wood carvings on display at the Orissa Crafts Utsav under way in Kochi.

KOCHI: Orissa Crafts Utsav, an exhibition-cum-sale of handlooms, handicrafts and jewellery is on at Gangothri Hall on Rajaji Road. There are more than three lakh handloom weavers in Orissa producing a rich range of textures. Eloquent and realistic, the fabrics - a variety of silks, tussar, and cotton - and designs based on tribal, traditional and modern motifs, are on display at the exhibition which will be on till January 6.

For the cognoscenti, there is an array of items to choose from. The Patachitra painting works, palm leaf paintings, appliqué and patch works are a sure draw.

Silver filigree, stone carving, wood carving and Dhokra casting add colour to the show. There are handlooms and handicrafts from other States on show.
