BERHAMPUR: A three-day drama festival in honour of the octogenarian theatre personality Natyasree Raghunath Mishra concluded at the Kavisurya Rangamanch of the city on Tuesday night.

During this festival two recently written plays of Natyasree were enacted. Even at the age of 82, he is active in writing plays on contemporary themes and theatre production, said Prafulla Mohapatra, director of the plays being enacted at the festival. The play ‘Nari Narayani’ was performed twice. Its theme was based on the recent sex scandals being unearthed in the State which involved people from the corridors of power. The other play ‘Ei Ta Jivan’ was performed on the concluding day. It was again based on the problem of tender fixing and creation of black money. It also depicted the fight between desire for peace and desire for material goods.

According to noted theatre artist and director Raju Padhi, the new generation should learn from Natyasree, who even at his advanced age continued to encourage the youngsters to act on stage. Natyassree happened to be a multifarious theatre personality of south Orissa, who is also known father of commercial theatre movement in south Orissa. He has also produced and directed eight Oriya movies, written and directed more than 100 plays in his career of more than 60 years. He is also known as a lyricist as he has penned more than 700 songs for movies, audio cassettes and plays.
