CELEBRATING NATURE: Photographer Rajbir Singh tries to provide an insight into the picturesque beauty of the mountains through his ongoing week-long exhibition being held at Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. Capturing the serene beauty of the mighty Himalayas as well as its fauna is an ongoing photo exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademi in the Capital. Tilted “Insights — Celebrating Nature”, the exhibition by Rajbir Singh, a guest lecturer at the Academy of Photographic Excellence, Delhi, is a complication of fine art nature photography. Natural forms, textures and colours in natur e inspired Rajbir to pick up the camera. The need to find an expression and capture the moments and feelings of travelling through some of the most stimulating landscapes in the country has fuelled his passion. Extensive travel through the Himalayas and wildlife sanctuaries have taken Rajbir to some fascinating places and some of the highest villages. Rajbir says the northern Himalayas are vast with places and images to capture pictures throughout the year. “I was always fond of nature. For the ongoing exhibition I travelled to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to capture the picturesque beauty of the mountains with my camera. Photography is more than a hobby for me. Getting caught in the snow, driving under falling rock and shooting at sub-zero temperatures are some of the added thrills that I have lived through.” The exhibition has on display large prints and many of them are on canvas. Panoramic images of mountain landscapes, nature and wildlife are on archival paper and canvas. The canvas gives the images a very raw feel and an almost painterly effect. The work reflects coloured panoramas, black-and-white images and also impressionist work giving it a new way in which to appreciate nature. International photographer Jim Zuckerman says: “Rajbir is a keen photographer whom I have seen grow. “He has absorbed the finer aspects of photography both technical and creative. I have known him to be a serious fine art photographer who has a lot of potential and promise. One of my favourites among his work remains the ‘speaking tree’.” The week-long exhibition is open up to this coming Saturday. Madhur Tankha
