‘Waive loans of vanilla growers’
Correspondent
Sirsi: The State Government should waive loans of vanilla growers as they are left in the lurch owing to price crash, chairman of Totgar’s Sale Society Shantharam Hegde Shigehalli has said.
In a release here on Tuesday, he urged all the cooperative societies to start an organised fight for the loan waiver. During 2002-03, price of vanilla beans was Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000 a kg. However, it has now come down to Rs. 10 to Rs. 15 a kg, he said. Farmers were were unable to pay even the interest for the loans taken by them, he said.
