Villupuram to seek Rs. 90 crore as compensation

“As per preliminary estimate standing crop on 132 hectares had been fully damaged”
VILLUPURAM: Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudy has stated that the Villupuram district administration will seek Rs 90 crore from the State Government for taking up immediate relief measures in the rain-hit areas.
After addressing a review meeting, attended by District Collector Brajendra Navnit and District Revenue Officer Kathiravan, here on Tuesday, the Minister told presspersons that so far relief worth Rs 50 lakh had been disbursed in the district.
Compensation
This included Rs 1 lakh compensation each to the families of 10 persons who died in rain-related incidents and Rs 2,000 each to 3,452 families who had lost their houses.
The Minister said that as per the preliminary estimate standing crop on 132 hectares had been fully damaged and crops on 666 ha had been partly damaged.
Damage to roads
Road network for a total length of 1,700 km needed repair, he added.
