JAIPUR: Dalit lawyers from different parts of Rajasthan deliberated on the methods for ensuring justice to the poor, marginalised and deprived sections of society and protecting their socio-economic, cultural and political rights at a State-level convention in Ajmer over the weekend. Legal experts attending the convention underlined the need for legal empowerment and enhancement of skills of subaltern lawyers by providing them with adequate infrastructure, books, training and financial help to enable them to come on par with other members of the legal fraternity. The day-long convention was organised by the Centre for Dalit Rights. Senior lawyer Moti Mani, presiding over the convention, said the “legal tool” was the only effective remedy to get security and justice to the poor and helpless people and added that this could be achieved with the help of lawyers proficient in their work. CDR chairperson P. L. Mimroth said Dalit lawyers could play a significant role in checking atrocities against Dalits.
