Consumer adalat in 20 schools

Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Chamarajanagar MP M. Shivanna has said that a programme has been organised to conduct student-consumer adalat in schools at an expenditure of Rs. 50 lakh in the district.

He was speaking after inaugurating a student-consumer meet to mark the celebrations of National Consumers Day at the J.H. Patel Bhavan on Monday.

He said that the Union Government has come forward to prevent adulteration of food products and wrong measuring and weighing of commodities.

Funds

He said that of the Rs. 50 lakh allocated to the district, Rs. 5 lakh had been released to organise the programmes.

He said awareness on consumer rights was being created through student-consumer adalat programmes in 20 schools.

Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat G. Jayaram said corruption would increase in society if the consumer fails to exercise his rights.

He regretted the helplessness of farmers to fix price for their produce.

He said industrialists fixed the price for the products they manufactured.

He said the lack of market and cost regulation system were the main reasons for the poor economic status of the farmer.

Zilla panchayat president Shailaja Mallesh, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Chamarajanagar Wildlife Division, Raju, and Headquarters Assistant to Deputy Commissioner Rajendra were present.

Prizes were distributed to students who participated in the competitions held as part of National Consumers Day.
