Letters to the Editor
The op-ed page article ‘Remembering a phenomenon’ (Dec. 25) was a fitting tribute to M.G. Ramachandran, one of the greatest leaders to have hailed from Tamil Nadu. It is astonishing that 20 years after his death MGR is fondly remembered by many people. What perhaps set him apart from other leaders was his compassion towards the poor and the downtrodden. This and his broad nationalist vision could be lessons for the present generation of politicians. J. Anantha Padmanabhan, Srirangam
