News Analysis
* In a report “Indian doctor changed Gordon Brown’s life” (“Newscape” page, December 25, 2007), the full name of the doctor, who saved British Prime Minister Gordon Brown (when he was 16) from going blind, was omitted. The third paragraph abruptly started with “Dr. Chawla ….” The original report had the sentences “Mention the name of Hector Chawla and the reaction is likely to be: ‘Hector who?’ Dr. Chawla who was born in Sialkot in pre-partitioned India (son of an Indian father and a Scottish mother) was a young eye surgeon at an Edinburgh hospital in 1970 when Mr. Brown was referred to him with the vision in his left eye already gone, and the right eye in a bad shape despite three operations to repair his damaged retina.” (The portions in italics were edited out in the published report.)
