University of Madras wins thriller

Namakkal: University of Madras posted a thrilling 22-21 win over Acharya Nagarjuna (AP) in a third round knockout match of the South Zone all India inter-varsity kabaddi tournament for men at the Kandaswami Kandar College in Vellur here on Tuesday.

The results: Third round: JNTU (AP) bt Vinayaka Mission (TN) 33-9, University of Madras bt Acharya Nagarjuna (AP) 22-21, Sri Sankaracharya Sanskrit (Kerala) bt Rajiv Gandhi 24-17, TNPE (TN) bt Bharathiar (TN) 22-19, Bharathidasan (TN) bt Mangalore 24-11.

Yogeshwaran moves up

At Coimbatore, local boy G. Yogeshwaran defeated Diwakar Reddy of Namakkal 8-2 to enter the under-14 boys’ singles semifinals in the district level junior tennis tournament at the CDTA courts in R.S. Puram on Wednesday.
