Rohan Gaonkar enters last eight

BANGALORE: Rohan Gaonkar of Karnataka pulled off two upsets and advanced to the quarterfinals in both the boys’ under-16 and 18 singles in the KIM’s AITA Talent Series junior tennis championship at the KIM’s courts here on Tuesday.

In boys’ u-16 singles, Rohan defeated sixth seed S. Raghavendra 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 and later humbled sixth seed Ganga Singh in the u-18 singles 7-6(6), 6-4.

In the girls’ section, Rachana R. Gowda shocked second-seeded Yamini Reddy in an all Karnataka clash 6-4, 7-5 and in another upset, seventh seed Mayura Manthan beat fourth seed Amala 6-0, 6-1.

Dirt track event

The final leg of the State-level dirt track event for two and four wheelers will be staged at the Palace Ground in Bangalore on December 31.

The two-wheeler event, in which Nitin leads currently on points, will be held from 10.30 a.m. to noon and the four-wheeler event in which Ranjit Ballal enjoys a narrow lead, will be held from 12.30 to 4.30 p.m.
