Angry mob torches bus

Smoke billowing from the bus that was torched in Berhampur on Tuesday.

BERHAMPUR: An angry mob torched a passenger bus following the death of a five-year-old girl in an accident on NH 217 near the First Gate area of the city on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Gitanjali Choudhury of Tulasi Nagar area of the city.

Her father, Ranjan Choudhury and her mother were also seriously injured in the accident.

They were returning from Bhanjanagar to the city on their motorcycle when the accident took place. The bus was travelling from Berhampur to Digapahandi.

Immediately, people of the locality stopped the bus. The driver of the bus managed to escape. The angry mob then asked all passengers to get down and torched it. By the time the fire brigade and a police team from Bada Bazar reached the spot, the bus was completely burnt. The police managed to pacify the crowd. The injured couple was shifted to MKCG Medical College Hospital for treatment.
