BERHAMPUR: A herd of wild elephants killed a woman near Jholapada village in Boriguma block of Koraput district on Tuesday morning. The pachyderms were roaming in the block for last one month. The herd comprised of seven adults and two babies. Locals The herd damaged some houses and crop on the foothills. As there were baby elephants in the herd, the female members were too protective. On Monday morning, Padma Bhuyan (35), wife of Keshav Bhuyan of Sana Dubuli village, became a victim. She was on her way to Jholaguda village when she came face to face with the elephants. She was killed at the spot. The police and forest officials reached the spot to recovered the body. Forest officials reached the village with torches and crackers to help villagers drive away the elephants. Last year, wild elephants killed three persons in Koraput district.
