Take up relief measures on a war-footing: Stalin

TIRUVARUR: Due compensation will be given to those affected by rain in the district after the ongoing assessment of damage is completed, said the Local Administration Minister, M.K. Stalin at Tiruvarur on Monday.
After inspecting the flood affected areas in the district, he told presspersons that samba paddy crop on 73,148 hectares had been affected in the district. Groundnut on 598 hectares and black gram on 99 hectares were affected. Three persons died of wall collapse in the district and for them solatium of Rs.1 lakh had been given.
Officials have been asked to take up relief measures on a war-footing. A total of 12,000 persons were moved to 37 relief camps and they were fed. PWD, Highways, Revenue and Agriculture department officials were engaged in assessing the damage, the Minister said.
Stalin visited the relief camp at Punavasal school and handed over a cheque for Rs.1 lakh to Seethalakshmi, wife of Annamalai, who died in wall collapse at Needamangalam.
The Minister also saw the breaches in Pandavayar and Korayar.
K. Ponmudi, Higher Education Minister, U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, M. Chandrasekaran, Tiruvarur Collector, Sivapunniyam, Ualaganathan and Padmavathi, all MLAs, accompanied the Minister during his visit.
