CITU backs APSRTC strike

HYDERABAD: The AP committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has pledged support to the agitation being launched by the joint action committee of APSRTC trade unions on December 26 and 27 against the proposed hiring of buses by the corporation.

R. Sudha Bhaskar, CITU president and S. Veeraiah, general secretary, in a statement here on Tuesday said they will support the dharnas at the zonal centres on December 26 and 27.

They expressed apprehension that there is a threat to job security of drivers after the introduction of hired buses and closure of garages. They said if new buses are introduced, employment could be created to seven jobless persons per bus, specially to those belonging to weaker sections. They appealed to the recognised National Mazdoor Union to prevail upon the management to drop the proposal.
