IMMACULATE RIDING: Parvesh Kumar, who won the young rider jumping competition.

CHENNAI: With the top six riders to be selected to represent India at the CSI ‘Y’ international tournament, to be held here from Friday, all the participants were keen to their best in the young riders jumping event of the Panasonic National junior equestrian championship.

Sowar Parvesh Kumar (RTS &D, Saharanpur) astride Andy Flower came up with a fantastic performance clearing Round ‘A’ and ‘B’ without any penalty at the Mohite Stadium, Officers Training Academy, St. Thomas Mount, here on Tuesday.

The second place was shared by Aliya Das Gupta, Maryk Sahney and Sudhir Singh. The three had four penalties each.

Interestingly, 16-year-old Anant Rajpurohit on Pralay produced a scintillating display emerging unscathed in two rounds with no penalties. However, he did not enter the medal bracket as he had already taken part in junior events.

But Rajpurohit, in all probability, will represent the country in the CSI ‘Y’ event.

Wednesday is a rest day.

The results: Jumping for young riders (JNEC, 18-21 years): 1. Parvesh Kumar (RTS&D, Saharanpur) on Andy Flower, 2. Maryk Sahney (ECE, Bangalore) on Barasi, Aliya Das Gupta (EIRS) on Hannibal, Sudhir Singh (President’s Body Guard) on Tara.

Monday’s results: Jumping children-2 (JNEC, 10-12 years): 1. Vivek Varma (Lawrence School, Lovedale) on SGT Pepper, 2. Anish (ARPA) on Mirza, 3. Yash Deep Ahlawat (RVC Centre and College, Meerut) on Mascot, 4. Arjun Sahlot (RVC Centre and College, Meerut) on Magician.
