Vice-President’s visit: traffic restrictions in city

Vehicles to be diverted from Pattom junction

Parking along VVIP route, side roads banned


Thiruvananthapuram: Vehicular traffic will be restricted in the capital city on Wednesday and Thursday by the traffic police in connection with the maiden visit of Vice-President Hamid Ansari.

Assistant Commissioner, Traffic, South, P. Mohanan Nair said traffic will be restricted from December 26 afternoon in the airport, Shanghumughom, All Saints College junction, Chaka, Pettah, General Hosptial Junction, Asan Square, PMG, RR Lamp, Museum, Vellayambalam and Kowdiar junction stretches for the VVIP visit.

On December 27 morning, traffic will be restricted on the Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Museum junction, RR Lamp, Palayam, VJT Hall, Asan Square, General Hospital junction, Pettah, Chaka, Enchakkal, Thiruvallom, Vazhamuttom, Kovalam stretches.

Later, the traffic police will restrict vehicular traffic in the Kovalam, Vazhamuttom, Thiruvallom, Enchakkal, Chaka, All Saints College junction, Shanghumughom and Airport stretches.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the vehicles coming through the NH 47 and Main Central Road to the capital will be diverted from Pattom junction. The vehicles will have to proceed via Marappalam, Kuravankonam junction, Ambala Nagar, Ambalamukku, Olanpara, Sasthamangalam, Edapazhanji, Cotton Hill, Sreemulam Club, Vazhuthacaud, Xanadu to Thampanoor and East Fort. All vehicles including KSRTC will be diverted from Pattom junction.

The vehicles from Thampanoor and East Fort area proceeding to NH 47 and Main Central Road will also be diverted to ensure smooth flow of traffic. All vehicles, including KSRTC buses, will be diverted via Thampanoor, Flyover, Valiyasala, Kanettumukku, Jagathy, Edapazhanji, Sasthamangalam, Olanpara, Ambalamukku.

Those vehicles proceeding from Peroorkada toThampanooor and East Fort side will be diverted through Olanpara, Sasthamangalam, Edapazhanji, Sreemulam Club, Vazhuthacaud and Xanadu.

Mr. Nair said parking along the VVIP route and side roads had also been banned to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and to avoid traffic snarls in the city on Wednesday and Thursday.

The police have also urged the public to ensure that construction materials are not heaped on the roads through which the VVIP convoy moves. The traffic police have urged the public to cooperate with the traffic arrangements.
