Demand to release factory workers
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded release of workers who were arrested while protesting against the management of a factory in the Capital’s Mayapuri Industrial Area on December 20.
The police had arrested them when they had gone on a day’s strike to register their protest against non-observance of labour laws.
The party also accused the factory management of trying to crush the newly formed union of the workers. It alleged that hired goons of two industrial units located in the area had attacked the workers when they were on strike.
The police also lathi-charged the workers, resulting in injuries to several of them.
The Delhi Government was fully responsible for violations of labour laws indulged in by the factory management, the party said in a statement.
