Travel insurance agent held
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A travel insurance agent was arrested on Mandir Marg here on Monday for allegedly making a hoax call to the police claiming that a bomb had been planted at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Midnight mass
According to the police, Pawan Sharma of Paharganj made repeated calls to the Mandir Marg police station around 9-30 on Monday night saying that a bomb was going to explode at Sacred Heart Cathedral where a large number of people were due to gather for the midnight mass.
“He called up thrice and said that bomb could explode any time. We traced the call to a public telephone booth at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and some policemen in plain clothes were deployed there. He was nabbed while he was going to make another call,” said a police officer.
He was under the influence of alcohol and told the police that he wanted to have some fun by creating panic, the officer said.
He had earlier been arrested under similar charges in 2005 for making a hoax call claiming that bomb had been planted at Lady Hardinge Medical Hospital.
