Animation film on story of Lord Iyappan

S.R. Ashok Kumar

FIRST TIME: A promotional still from ‘Manikandan’

CHENNAI: The story of Lord Iyappan of Sabarimala has been told by several filmmakers, in many languages.

But for the first time, the story is being told through animation, in the film ‘Manikandan’.

The film covers the story from his birth and also looks at myths related to the deity.

Music director Ilaiyaraja has scored the music for the film. The story, screenplay and dialogues have been penned by Krishnakumar and the film is directed by Regi Syne.

The director hopes the film’s production would be on a par with international standards.

“I have brought in animators from various countries, who are very good in different styles of animation. I want the production to be on a par with or better than any other film produced abroad. When maestro Ilaiyaraja heard the story and the concept of producing the film for the first time in cinemascope and in animation, he readily agreed to compose music for the film.”

The film would be dubbed in all South Indian languages and in Hindi and English. The film is being produced by Nalin Singh.
