Nissar Ahmed to be honoured

BANGALORE: The Press Club of Bangalore has selected poet K.S. Nissar Ahmed for its “Man of the Year 2007” Award. K. Sridhar Achar, journalist, and D. Baburaj, photojournalist, were selected for the Press Club Award for 2007.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, club president E.V. Satyanarayana said the club had conferred this award on prominent persons in the past. “This year we are honouring Prof. Ahmed for his contribution to the literary field. In recognition of their contribution to journalism, Mr. Sridhar Achar and Mr. Baburaj were selected for annual awards,” he said.

The award winners will be honoured with mementos on December 31 during the club’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. A 2008 diary, comprising details of journalists, will be released, Mr. Satyanarayana said.

K.H. Muniyappa, Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Katta Subramanya Naidu, former Minister, Yagnanarayana, industrialist, film actors Prem, Ramya and Pooja Gandhi, will participate in the function, he said.

B.P. Mallappa, general secretary of the club, said cultural programmes would be organised for club members and their families.

The club has planned to hold a health check-up camp for the members in January, he added.
