Bellary
Bellary MP urged to apprise Centre of the situation Agitations to be launched if action not taken BELLARY: The former Minister Allum Veerabhadrappa has expressed concern over the shortage of chemical fertilizers in the district, which he said had caused great hardship to farmers in Bellary, Sirguppa and Hospet taluks. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, he said that as against the requirement of 18,000 tonnes of DAP, the supply during the current year was only 5,000 tonnes. Similarly, the demand for “Complex” was around 60,000 tonnes while supply was 13,000 tonnes. The demand for urea was 35,000 tonnes but supply was only around 8,000 tonnes. Quota diversionFearing that the quota for Karnataka, allotted by the Union Government, was being diverted to other States, he accused the Centre of discriminating against the State. He wanted Bellary MP G. Karunakar Reddy to discuss the matter with Union Ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Sharad Pawar and bring to their notice the plight of farmers here, besides urging them to take steps to ensure adequate supply of fertilizers. MemorandumMr. Veerabhadrappa said that if no steps were taken to regulate its supply within a week, farmers would resort to agitations. Later, he, along with his followers submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging appropriate action.
