Over 1,000 delegates will participate in the conference 10 guest lecturers from abroad to present papers DAVANGERE: Bapuji Dental College and Hospital is organising the 32nd conference of the Indian Society of Periodontology here from December 28 to 30. Over 1,000 delegates, including many from abroad, will participate in the event. Ten experts from abroad will deliver lectures on the occasion. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, chairperson of the event M.G. Triveni and organising secretary A.B. Tarun Kumar said various aspects of periodontology would be discussed at the conference and the lecturers would present papers on different aspects of the subject. Study of gumsPeriodontics is one of the important branches in dental science and involves the study of gums and diseases affecting them. In India, over 90 per cent of people suffer from tooth loss owing to periodontitis. The conference will create a platform to discuss and exchange views on important aspects of the subject. Mr. Tarun said this was the first time that over 1,000 delegates from all 68 postgraduate dental colleges in the country were taking part in the conference. A pre-conference session would be held on December 27. He further said that this was the first time a national conference on periodontology was being held at a district headquarter town, as all previous conferences were held in cities. Director of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, Ramananda Shetty will inaugurate the conference while Arvind Jannu, Secretary, Forests, Ecology and Environment will be the chief guest. The former MLA and secretary of the Bapuji Education Association Shamanur Shivashankarappa will preside over the function. A souvenir will be brought out on the occasion containing research papers on periodonotolgy and allied aspects. Vice-principal of the college D.S. Mehta and public relations officer Gurushanthappa were present.
