Davangere APMC president resigns

Staff Correspondent

No-confidence motion moved

by Congress

Vice-president of the APMC also quits office

DAVANGERE: Sathish Kolenahalli and A.E. Nagaraj resigned as president and vice-president of the Davangere Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee here on Wednesday at a special meeting convened in the wake of a no-confidence motion mooted by some APMC directors belonging to the Congress.

Both of them resigned and walked out of the meeting before the motion was tabled. However, directors belonging to the Congress demanded that a no-confidence motion be formally tabled and allowed members to vote for and against it.

Somashekar, a senior officer who presided over the meeting, later completed the formalities.

Disqualified

Soon after the fall of the coalition government in the State, three nominated members of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee were disqualified. Sathish of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Nagaraj of the Bharatiya Janata Party had been elected president and vice-president respectively with the support of the three nominated members.

Majority support

As the membership of the three nominated persons was withdrawn, members from the Congress party, realising that the president and vice-president did not enjoy majority support, initiated the motion.
