Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: The Congress in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday expelled 45 leaders, mostly district-level party functionaries, for allegedly working against party candidates in the just concluded Assembly poll. State Congress President Viplov Thakur took strong note of anti-party activities of these leaders and expelled them from the party for six years, a party release said. ‘Great harm’The HPCC Chief said these rebels caused great harm to the party by working against the official candidates in the just concluded Assembly poll warranting severe disciplinary action. Those expelled are mostly district level office bearers of the party hailing from Kullu, Anni, Thural, Bamson, Hamirpur, Jubbal Kotkhai, Chopal and Shimla Assembly constituencies, the release said. Today’s action comes close on the heels of expulsion of 14 party leaders, mostly of district level, last week. ‘More defeats’Una: After its defeat in Gujarat, the Congress party will be ousted from power in Himachal Pradesh also, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said here. “The Congress is paying for its anti-people policies and is tasting defeat one after another...its journey of defeat which started from Uttar Pradesh, travelled through Punjab, Uttaranchal, Gujarat and now in Himachal Pradesh,” Mr. Dhumal told reporters. Congress will taste defeat when results of Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections will be out on Friday, he said. Mr. Dhumal, who has been declared as BJP chief ministerial candidate in Himachal Pradesh, said the Congress has lost trust of the common man due to its failure to check price rise of essential commodities. Referring to the UPA Government’s failure to execute the death sentence of Afzal Guru, the BJP leader criticised the Congress of appeasing the minority community for votes. -- PTI
