Clash over sand-mining
Staff Reporter
KASARAGOD: Two persons were injured in clashes between illegal sand-miners and anti-mining groups in Shiriya, near Kumbla, in the district on Wednesday.
The police said the injured were Abdul Khadar and Muhammed Kunhi, both mining workers. The clashes are reportedly a sequel to attacks on local people by the mining mafia recently. The local people who oppose illegal mining of river sand had been at loggerheads with the mining mafia. The public has been demanding steps against illegal sand-mining, which they said was destroying the eco-system of the Shiriya river.
