“Paddy procured, based on Collectors’ recommendations in non-delta districts”
Special Correspondent
TIRUVANNAMALAI: Procurement of paddy in the non-delta districts was being done on the basis of the recommendations of the respective District Collectors to avoid financial difficulty to the farmers, according to Food Minister E.V. Velu.
Talking to reporters after inaugurating a foodgrains godown of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation in Thandrambattu on Wednesday, Mr. Velu said that while a larger number of direct procurement centres have been opened in the Cauvery delta districts, instructions have been given to the Collectors of non-delta districts about the procurement.
The godown would supply foodgrains to 25 nutritious meal centres, eight backward class and SC students’ hostels, four police stations, a fire station and eight forest department centres.
