Seven children injured as tree falls on them

NAMAKKAL: Seven children sustained injuries when a tree fell on them in Chatram village in Senthamangalam block on Tuesday.

Police said the children were playing under the tree, when it got uprooted. The injured were admitted to a hospital.

PDS rice seized

District Supply Officials seized 65 bags of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System in M. Perumapalayam near Salem on Tuesday night.

Acting on a tip off, officials checked a lorry parked on the road side and found the bags in it. Food cell personnel arrested lorry cleaner Ashokan in this connection.

Further investigation was going on, sources said.

BSP stages demonstration

Members of Salem district unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a demonstration in Salem on Wednesday urging the district administration to remove encroachments from a land, acquired to provide free house sites to Adi Dravidars at Masinaickanpatti village in Ayodhyapattinam block.

House site pattas

They appealed to the administration to initiate immediate measures to provide free house sites to all eligible Adi Dravidars in the village.

Jewellery stolen

A few unidentified persons broke open the door of a house and stole four sovereigns of gold jewellery near Namakkal on Tuesday.

Police said owner of the house Nagalakshmi (26), after returning from the field, found the doors broke open and jewellery missing.

Erumapatti police registered a case and investigations are on.
