BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has bagged the EMPI-Indian Express Indian Innovation Award 2006 instituted by Entrepreneurial Management Processes International (EMPI), New Delhi, for its innovative actions.

The award is instituted for innovative activities in the field of ecology transport, information technology, automobile, communication, oil sector and so on. The jury consisted of distinguished and eminent luminaries from various fields, headed by distinguished scientist M.G.K. Menon.

The former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam presented the gold trophy earlier in the month to KSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director A.P. Joshi in New Delhi for the successful delivery of “multiple end results” ranging from quality customer care, environment protection and fuel conservation to better overall use of available resources, transforming a typically cash-constrained transportation PSU into a viable business entity, thereby becoming a role model for other State PSUs.

A press note from KSRTC said this was achieved through a number of organisational innovations, including application of information technology to improve efficiency in management of ticketing, passenger amenities, workforce, driver training and other related areas.

Lauded

Dr. Kalam, during his address, appreciated the efforts of KSRTC being in the public sector and achieving remarkable strides despite several constraints. Prof. Menon said he hoped other STUs in the country would follow the model of KSRTC in achieving overall performance in their operations.
