Restore benefits to pensioners: PMC legislator

PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Munnetra Congress MLA K. Lakshminayaranan on Wednesday urged the government to restore benefits such as free bedsheets and chappals to pensioners belonging to fishermen families.

In a release, he said that earlier when these people were drawing pension from the Social Welfare Department, they were provided bedsheets and chappals. Ever since they migrated to the scheme belonging to the Fisheries Department, they were deprived of the benefit.

Similarly, Mr. Lakshminarayanan said that the families of the pensioners were unable to avail themselves of funeral expenses, which they were able to under the previous scheme.
