Tributes: Fisheries Minister S. Sarma and Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan paying floral tributes at the Tsunami Smrithi Mandapam at Alapad on Wednesday. KOLLAM: The third anniversary of the tsunami devastation was observed at Alapad on Wednesday evening. At the commemoration meeting, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan released documents pertaining to a Rs.42-crore special package for Alapad. He handed over the documents to Alapad grama panchayat president G. Rajadas. The meeting was held at the Tsunami Smrithi Mandapam at Azheekal in Alapad. Inaugurating the meeting, Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran, who is also the local MLA, said all the eligible persons would get new houses under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Scheme. Seven Ministers would monitor the progress of the rehabilitation project. The fund for the purpose was being kept under a special account and was subjected to regular review, he said. In his presidential address, Fisheries Minister S. Sarma said the government was committed to complete all the projects under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Scheme by 2009. Funds for the scheme would not be diverted for any other purpose. Allegations to the contrary were totally baseless, he said.
