BJP national executive in Bangalore in January

BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party is learnt to have decided to hold a three-day national executive committee meeting in Bangalore in January last week as part of its efforts to bring the focus on Karnataka, which is going to polls shortly.

After Gujarat elections, the BJP central leadership is now focussing its entire attention on Karnataka where the party believes that it is in an advantageous position to win the polls. The BJP central leadership, which has often described Karnataka as the “party’s gateway to the South,” is keen to win the Karnataka elections to sustain the tempo built up among its supporters with the Gujarat poll victory.

According to sources, the three-day executive is likely to begin from January 27. All the prominent national leaders of the party, barring the former Prime Minister A. B. Vajpayee, who is not in good health, would attend the proposed executive, sources said.

The national executive is expected to mainly deliberate on the party’s poll prospects in Karnataka among other issues. Sources said that party central leaders would now take up frequent tours of Karnataka. BJP president Rajnath Singh will visit Raichur on January 3 to participate in a farmers’ convention.

Meanwhile, the BJP is learnt to have decided to come out with an election manifesto that would have a region-specific agenda instead of general promises for the entire State. “Since the problems and issues pertaining to each region are different, we have decided to adopt a region specific approach,” a senior party functionary told The Hindu. Even the poll strategies of the party will be varying from region to region.The party’s brainstorming session to evolve poll strategies including the nature of the poll manifesto will be held in Bangalore tentatively on January 5, sources said.
