Letters to the Editor
The edit page article, ‘Examining a post-Prabakaran scenario’ (Dec. 25), is timely. Claims and counter-claims on the reported injury to LTTE chief Velupillai Prabakaran are sure to have made the outfit think in terms of identifying a successor. After the demise of Anton Balasingham and S.P. Thamilselvan, there is indeed a leadership crisis in the outfit. And the possibility of a takeover by a member of Prabakaran’s family though unlikely cannot be ruled out totally. The better course for the group would be to try and hammer out a solution with the Sri Lankan authorities through the Norwegian mediators. S.R. Badrinarayanan, Chennai The article provided many facts about the recent developments in the island nation that the Sri Lankan government may consider as favourable. It is enjoying an upper hand which it never did in the recent past. However, a true solution to the problem will only be possible if the government is ready to view the problem from a non-Sinhala angle if not from a pro-Tamil angle. Raj Kumar T., Palakkad All concerned should realise that hundreds and thousands of Pottu Ammans could emerge if the ethnic problem is not tackled properly. R. Baskar, Salem
