This Day That Age
The Second Madras State Landowners Conference held in Madras on December 25, cautioned the Government and the public that any legislation to fix ceilings on land holdings would be harmful to agriculture. A resolution to this effect, adopted at the conference which was held under the presidency of Mr. B. Ramachandra Reddi at the Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Mylapore, stated that grave disturbance had been caused to the rural economy in general and the agricultural economy in particular, by “the spate of hasty and unfair land legislation in recent years.” It said in the context of a decline in agricultural yields and a falling-off in new investment in land, any measure to fix ceilings on land holding would be harmful.
