Rashien, Vishnu in semifinals

BANGALORE: The top two seeds, Rashien Samuel and Vishnu K. Jinan, entered the boys’ under-16 singles semifinals with emphatic victories in the KIM’s-AITA Talent Series junior tennis championship at the KIM’s courts here on Wednesday.

Rashien stopped Rohan Gaonkar 6-4, 6-4, while Jinan also won by a similar margin against Surjeet Singh.

Others to make the semifinals were third seed Ganga Singh and fourth seed S. Karan.

In the u-18 singles, top seed S. Kamal, Sujith Sachidanand, Sujeeth Mathew and Vasanth Venkatesh made the last four.

In the girls’ section, Rachana R. Gowda entered both the u-16 and 18 singles semifinals with easy wins, but the u-16 singles top seed, Yamini Reddy, had it tough against fifth seed S.P. Ritu, before she prevailed 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Boys: U-16 singles: Rashien Samuel bt Rohan Gaonkar 6-4, 6-4; Ganga Singh bt Siddarth Dabri 6-2, 6-2; Vishnu K. Jinan bt Surjeet Singh 6-4, 6-4; S. Karan bt Vikas Hansoge 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

U-18 singles: S. Kamal bt Rohan Gaonkar 6-1, 6-4; Sujith Sachidanand bt Vishnu K. Jinan 6-3, 6-1; Sujeet Mathew bt Rishi Dabri 6-4, 6-4; Vasanth Venkatesh bt S. Karan 6-0, 6-2.

Girls: U-16 singles: Yamini Reddy bt S.P. Ritu 1-6, 6-3, 6-2; Rachana R. Gowda bt Swathi Kumar 6-0, 6-0; Nithya Raj bt Nivetha Srinivas (TN) 6-2, 6-0; Shalaka bt Surya Suresh 6-0, 6-0.

U-18 singles: Akansha Kohli bt Nivetha Srinivas 6-3, 6-3; Ravina Shetty bt Shalaka 6-2, 6-4; Rachana R. Gowda bt M.P. Nitha 6-2, 6-3; Mayura Manthan bt S.P. Ritu 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(5).
