HYDERABAD: The State Council of the CPI on Wednesday demanded early completion of the Polavaram project as it benefits both drought-prone Rayalaseema and Telangana regions. Addressing the 82nd anniversary celebrations of the party, K. Narayana, State secretary, said that when completed the project would help divert Godavari waters to both the regions. He supported the irrigation projects taken up by the government as they would help the predominantly agriculture-based State. While calling upon the government to allocate sufficient funds for expeditious completion of the projects, Mr. Narayana pointed out that the party was opposed to ‘irregularities’ taking place in their execution. “The government has failed to check corruption and allocate sufficient funds to the projects”, he observed. Flag unfurledThe CPI leader called upon every party activist to strive to make the struggle, being launched in support of the poor, a success. As activists looked on and raised slogans, he unfurled the red flag. Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, MP and CPI national secretary, asserted that the party’s fight to focus attention on the problems of downtrodden had forced other parties to include them in their agenda. The struggle launched in favour of the party’s stand on ‘land to the tiller’ had brought about awareness among the people. He favoured strengthening of efforts to achieve Left unity. Chada Venkat Reddy, CPI floor leader, recalled the party’s struggle to achieve country’s freedom as also against the Telangana feudal system.
