Making a presentation at DAV Chandrasekharpur School here recently, LRMCN Project Officer Pravat Sutar said, “We wanted to involve the housewives of the city in the domestic energy efficiency programme. Housewives have been have been identified as potential characters to lead energy conservation movement at the grassroots level.” “As they stay in houses for a longer period than men and children, they can keep a tab on energy being consumed by the households. Moreover, they can be teachers of energy conservation drive for their children,” Mr. Sutar said. The training programme was participated by 20 housewives and more than 80 school children. It is to be noted that Bhubaneswar became the first Indian city to adopt a city-level renewable energy and energy efficiency policy. Practical demonstrations on energy saving tips were presented before them. The LRMCN has conducted similar training programmes for housewives at three different places and opened a cell in BMC office to make people aware energy conservations tools.
