Top honour for the poet

BHUBANESWAR: Eminent poet and president of Orissa Sahitya Akademi Deepak Mishra has been chosen for the Central Sahitya Akademi award for 2007 for his book ‘Sukha Sanhita’, a collection of poems.An academician of repute, Dr. Mishra has to his credit 18 anthologies of poems in Oriya, one collection of essays on poetry, two books on transcreation and one book in English translation.

The awards that he won earlier include Jhankar Award-1976, Orissa Sahitya Akademi Award-1978, and Bisuba Award-2002. Dr. Mishra had refused to accept Sarala Award for book `Nidhaga Yatra’ in 2004. Born on March 7, 1938, Dr. Mishra did his post-graduation in History from Allahabad University in 1961. He did his thesis on ‘Lord Chaitanya and Orissa of his times’ in 1964. Dr. Mishra worked as principal in different colleges till superannuation in November 1998.
