Team to submit report on suicide by farmers

Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR: People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) secretary V. Lakshminarayan has said a detailed report on suicide by farmers in the State will be submitted to the Government.

A fact-finding team comprising district president K. Venkataraju and vice-president Doreswamy visited the house of a farmer, Siddaraju, at Harave village on Wednesday. It may be recalled that Siddaraju committed suicide because he could not bear the alleged harassment by agents hired by ICICI bank to recover the tractor loan taken by him. Mr. Lakshminarayan said the team’s report would help the Government take steps to prevent such incidents again. The team also visited Hosapura village in Nanjangud taluk where another farmer, H.M. Manjunath, committed suicide for the same reason. President of Hasiru Sene (Chamarajanagar taluk) Manjunath, taluk president of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Siddaraju and others were present.
