BHUBANESWAR: The Hindu Jagaran Shamukhya (HJS), an offshoot of the Sangh Parivar, on Wednesday warned of spreading the agitation to other parts of the State if the houses belonging to members of the community continued to be torched in Kandhamal district. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, its joint secretary Basudev Barik said several members of the community left their houses in Parakhama, Daringbadi, Pabinga, Phulbani, Tikabali, Rupagaon and Nuapadar areas after being attacked by members of another community. “On Tuesday night, a temple was damaged and 12 houses were burnt down in Parakhma allegedly by minority fundamentalist groups,” Mr. Barik charged. Condemning the attack on VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, the HJS said: “Congress leader Radhakant Nayak should immediately be arrested as he allegedly masterminded the attack.” There would be no let-up in the agitation until the miscreants involved in the attack were brought to book, Mr. Barik said. The HJS demanded a review of financial transactions of the World Vision, an NGO operating in Kandhamal district. It alleged that the NGO was using all assistance for wooing tribals towards a particular religion.
