1,700 posts of Gr-I and II services to be filled by Sept. Recruitment will be based on merit and qualifications HYDERABAD: As many as 5,000 posts in various departments of the Government, including Group I and Group II services, will be filled in two phases through the A. P. Public Service Commission (APPSC) in the next few months. The notification for the first phase will be issued by the APPSC before December 31, most probably by Thursday, to facilitate applicants to avail the benefit of upper age relaxation (from 34 to 38 years) sanctioned by the Government. The recruitment for the second phase will be notified by June 2008. However, 1,700 posts of Group I and II services will be filled by September after following the due procedures and conducting the tests. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave the green signal to the recruitment at a meeting with senior officials here on Wednesday. He said that the Government was determined to go ahead with the recruitment in spite of heavy financial commitments to provide employment to at least some of the people. There is a virtual ban on recruitment to Government posts for almost a decade, a press release issued by the CM’s office said. It pointed out that the proposed recruitment is in addition to the 35,997 posts being filled in the police department at an estimated expenditure (on salaries over a period of three years) of Rs. 668.74 crores. The Chief Minister cautioned various departments that are recruiting the candidates and the APPSC to avoid any flaws and give no room for complaints. The procedures should be transparent and the recruitment based on merit and qualifications. Dr. Reddy also cleared the recruitment to 19 posts of Deputy Collectors, 22 DSPs and 206 tahsildars. The release said said additional posts were sanctioned, particularly in the police and education departments, whenever the need arose. It had permitted the filling of 20,103 vacancies of teachers through District Selection Committees. Besides, 18 departments had been identified for filling 12,214 Direct Recruitment posts.
